In year 2022, humanity has finally created a complete virtual environment. Using a tool called nerve gear, players are able to experience real life combat in games. When a new game launched, Sword Art Online, many were eager to buy it. However only ten thousand copies were sold. During the game, many players realized that the log out button was removed. Without the log out button, they were all trapped in the virtual environment. Later, an announcement was made by Kayaba Akihiko, the creator of the nerve gear and SAO. He would only release the players if anyone cleared the game till the 100th floor. To clear each floor, they need to find the boss room and defeat the boss monster. In addition to that, if your HP (health points) in the game falls to zero, you would be killed instantly by the nerve gear. It's a life and death situation.

The story if about a high schooler, Kirito, who is crazy about games. He was also a beta tester, one of the thousand that got a chance to try out the game before it was released. In the show, he was called a 'beater' (cheater + beta tester = beater) while trying to protect a friend's feelings. This story evolves around him and the people he met in the game.

Personal ratings: 2
When i watched the first episode and i totally got hooked on to it. It did not follow the same way the manga started out. Really thought that this anime would be a master piece (judging from the first episode).

The time between two episodes are wide. Like in one episode its the first day and the next episode its already a few months later. They did not really let us keep track of the level Kirito is at, making the viewers feel lost at some point. I don't like the 'shoujo' part of the manga, it really goes to extreme weirdness. Not suitable for this kind of action-type anime. I totally hate how they are so desperate to keep the ratings of this anime up that they start to add more ecchi (perverted) stuff into the anime.

The second arc is really boring and less action as compared to the first arc, where each episode tells a story of another person and how Kirito helped them. Comparing the 2nd and the 1st arc, there is a lot of unbalanced things. In the first arc, they are in the game all the time, and totally did not show about anything on the outside world. While in the 2nd arc, i feel that they show way to much on the real world, and is not focusing on the virtual world. Mover, what really bugged me was the fact that they totally did not show Kirito training at all for both arcs.

Did not really like the last scene. Totally think that they should have showed more of Kirigaya and Asuna together then Kirigaya and his cousin/ sister. And seriously, they should make Kirito have the dual swords skill!!

I would have liked it a lot more i it was more concentrated into an action mainstream anime.

Art ratings: 4.5
I totally fell in love with the art when i saw the picture. Even though i was unsure about watching it when i saw the picture (because i see a guy surrounded with many gurls, i thought that all the gurls would be irritating), however the art captured me. One of the few animes with such awesome art. I really love how they draw the eyes <3 But for some fighting scenes, Kirito looks werid.
